VAFA Board Update

By VAFA Media · July 15, 2022
VAFA Board Update

The VAFA Board is pleased to advise the appointment of Mr.Oliver Gilbert as a VAFA Director to take up a Board appointed position.

With a legal background and VAFA club involvement at MHSOB,Oliver brings expertise in Strategic Planning and Media rights which fills an identified skill matrix required for the board.

An announcement on the remaining board vacancy will be made soon.

Oliver Gilbert

Mr Gilbert is a Senior Management Consultant in Gemba’s strategy consulting division. Gemba is a dedicated sport and entertainment agency that has been helping rights holders, brands and broadcasters shape a better future for the sport and entertainment industry for over 15 years.

Recently, Oliver has led numerous strategic projects, including a 20-year strategic vision, a media rights valuation and go-to-market strategy, a competition and pathways review for a state based organization and the development of a junior community participation program. Oliver has significant experience developing strategies for national and state sports organisations, developing community participation programs and has a strong understanding of major issues faced across the sports landscape across female participation and pathways.

Prior to joining Gemba, Oliver worked in Mergers and Acquisitions strategy at Deloitte Australia and in Financial Services at Macquarie Bank for six years.

Oliver’s passion for amateur football stems largely from his interest in the origins of English football and its roots back to northern England in the mid 1800’s, particularly the dichotomy between upper class Eton college students and typical factory and mill workers who later formed professional clubs as factory teams in industrial towns. To Oliver, the story captures sport as a level playing field, accessible to all regardless of background, socio-economic status, race, religion or upbringing. Oliver also spends significant time with his uncle and sister supporting the Birregurra Saints play country football on the weekend, further fuelling his passion to be involved in amateur sport.
