How the Men’s Division Sections will look in 2023

By Joe Pignataro · December 9, 2022
How the Men’s Division Sections will look in 2023

In consultation with the clubs and the VAFA Football Operations team, the VAFA can confirm the section structures for Division 1 Men’s, Division 2 Men’s, Division 3 Men’s and Division 4 Men’s ahead of the 2023 season.

Division 1 Men’s – UHS-VU AFC, Preston Bullants, Kew FC, Glen Eira, Prahran FC, Oakleigh AFC, Therry Penola AFC, Old Peninsula, Ivanhoe AFC and West Brunswick

Ivanhoe AFC and West Brunswick have been elevated after reaching the Division 2 Men’s Grand Final in 2022, and playing off in an epic. UHS-VU and Preston Bullants come down to Division 1 Men’s after finishing in the bottom two spots in Premier C Men’s. Prahran Assumption has confirmed they will be known as Prahran FC in 2023.

Division 2 Men’s – Whitefriars, St Mary’s Salesian, Brunswick FC, Old Paradians, MHSOB, Aquinas OC, Bulleen Templestowe, Old Yarra Cobras, South Melbourne Districts and Parkside

After experiencing a winless 2022 season, St Mary’s Salesian will be part of Division 2 Men’s next year, along with Whitefriars. South Melbourne Districts are looking to emulate history of the past having been elevated from Division 4, to Division 3 and now to Division 2. Parkside, who fell short to the Bloods on Grand Final day also take themselves up a division. Finishing the 2022 home and season in fourth spot, they took an incredible run to the big dance.

Yarra Old Grammarians and Manningham Cobras are now a merged club. Known as the Old Yarra Cobras and will be competing in Division 2 Men’s in 2023.

Division 3 Men’s – Power House AFC, Elsternwick AFC, Canterbury, Wattle Park AFC, Hawthorn AFC, Richmond Central AFC, La Trobe University and Swinburne University

Power House AFC will aim to be one of the competitive sides in Division 3 Men’s, they are the only side from Division 2 Men’s to come back a Division with the amalgamated Old Yarra Cobras. Emmaus St Leo’s will be running out under the banner of Wattle Park FC while the two universities who played out the Division 4 Men’s Grand Final will again fight for bragging rights after both being elevated.

Division 4 Men’s – North Brunswick AFC, St Johns OC, Masala Football Club, Albert Park AFC, Eley Park and Box Hill North AFC

North Brunswick AFC will compete in Division 4 Men’s after spending the previous three seasons in Division 3 Men’s. Westbourne Grammarians, who finished on the bottom of the Division 3 Men’s ladder will compete in the Men’s Thirds Competition as opposed to Division 4 Men’s, a decision made on the basis of rebuilding the club, recruiting players with the intention of returning to senior football within 12 months.

All sections will consist of 18 matches played across 18 rounds and fixture request forms will be distributed to clubs before Christmas.
