May 15-21 is National Volunteer Week. This presents a fantastic time to acknowledge the thousands of hours VAFA volunteers contribute to their Club and the Association each season to ensure football is enjoyed by 12,000 players and of spectators across Melbourne.
The VAFA has more than 1000 volunteers in various supporting, managerial, and organisational roles at Clubland; including but not limited to Club committee roles, game day roles, and virtual roles.
The VAFA would like to thank all volunteers for their contribution however great or small to their VAFA Club and the Association, whether this be your first year volunteering or your 20th.
Recently the Association acknowledged the contributions of 6 VAFA Club volunteers who have provided outstanding service to their VAFA Club and the Association, by being awarded the VAFA Certificate of Merit. Congratulations to Chris Swinburne (St Johns), Dean Lovig (Hampton Rovers), Fabio Maya (Prahran AFC), John Hands (Old Carey), Tim Shearer (Old Scotch), Trevor Ludeman (Brunswick FC) on their awards.
If your club has a volunteer who is deserving of recognition for their contribution to your club please feel free to nominate them for the VAFA Volunteer of the Month for April/May. The Volunteer of the Month award is open throughout the 2023 season with a winner announced each month and a Volunteer of the Year awarded at the end of season VAFA Awards night.
