Round 6 in William Buck Premier Women’s saw St Kevin’s return fresh from the bye and straight back onto the winners list with a dominant victory over Fitzroy, as the ladder starts to take shape, with a dominant top four and an unexpected fall down the ladder from Caulfield.
In the first game of the round, Kew produced a dominant victory over Coburg, again proving why they are currently on top of the table.
This game was ultimately an easy win for Kew, allowing Coburg to score only one goal in the game and keeping them without a score for the entire first half. The contest was won in the second quarter, as Kew scored 26 points to Coburg’s zero.
Ashlee Kate Bruce was Kew’s best, whilst Lily Barr continued her strong season so far. For Coburg, Lauren Collis was once again best on, and Tayla Dinuccio managed their only goal.
Next week, Kew will take on Old Scotch at Camberwell Sportsground in what will be one of the games of the round. Meanwhile, the Lions will host Caulfield.
St Kevin’s returned to their usual dominance, fresh off the bye, to beat Fitzroy by 28 points. After losing to Old Scotch in round 4, SKOB returned to the winners list with a strong victory, only allowing Fitzroy to score seven points after half time and a total of 15 for the game.
Simone Mooney scored her fourth goal of the season for Fitzroy, having only gone goalless in two games this season. Sunday Brisbane was also Fitzroy’s best.
It was the usual suspects once again in SKOB’s best, with Bree Doyle named in the best once again, and is yet to miss out. Catherine Stanton scored her seventh goal of the season to also be named amongst the best.
Next week, SKOB will play in an exciting top four battle against Collegians, whilst Fitzroy have the bye.
In an unexpected result, West Brunswick beat Caulfield Grammarians, as last year’s grand finalists slumped to sixth on the ladder. It was a close game, with kicking accuracy the ultimate decider.
The Magpies were unable to score in a tense final quarter, and had a point taken off them. Caulfield had one scoring shot in the final quarter, however could not convert. Scoring 1.3 in the second quarter to Brunswick’s three goals was where the game was decided.
Sophie Stewart kicked a three goal bag for West Brunswick, whilst Ursula Fithall was best. Chantella Perera was Grammarians best and Alice Campbell managed two goals.
Next week, Caulfield have a chance to win against Coburg, whilst West Brunswick will travel to take on Melbourne Uni.
Collegians solidified their grasp on second spot on the ladder after a 24 point victory over Melbourne Uni. It was a closely contested match right up until the last quarter, with Melbourne Uni only down by five points going into the final change. However, a four-goal last quarter from the Purple Army got them over the line.
There were four players with multiple goals for Collegians on Saturday, as Georgia Harris, Jessica Fitzpatrick, Maddison Shaw and Rebecca Grant all had two goals. Jessica Pham was their best.
Asha Price also kicked two goals for Melbourne Uni, whilst Angelena Roan was their best.
Next week, Collegians take on SKOBs in a top of the table clash. Melbourne Uni will host the Magpies.
