Caulfield’s bubble burst as Kew stays ahead of the competition

Reigning premiers, St Kevin’s put an end to the winning streak of Caulfield Grammarians. Although SKOB were inaccurate with their kicking, their defence held strong, limiting Caulfield to only two behinds for the first three quarters of the game.

Catherine Stanton continued her strong form to be the best on ground, kicking four of SKOB’s five goals, whilst usual suspects Bree Doyle and Sarah Betts were also named in the best. On the other side, Chloe O’Malley kicked two goals to take her goal tally for the season to 14.

Following the bye due to the Big V game, Grammarians will come back the following weekend to play West Brunswick whilst St Kevin’s will play Coburg.

The Fitzroy vs Coburg game went down to the wire, and the Lions’ inaccuracy in front of goal nearly cost them the game. Kicking a poor 1.11 for the game, and winning off the back of behinds rather than goals, they had the opportunity to put the game away when they missed five shots on goal in the final quarter. Fitzroy on the other hand started the game off strong, kicking 1.2 in the first quarter.

Molly Tancred was best on for Fitzroy for the first time this season, whilst Kiana Minchin was Coburg’s best for the first time. In Round 13, Coburg have the tough challenge of hosting St Kevin’s, whilst Fitzroy will play Melbourne Uni. Both these games will feature in the Sunday timeslot.

Old Scotch produced a dominant performance over Melbourne Uni Women’s after a tough first quarter, with a dominant three-goal second quarter setting them up in a strong position to be in front for the rest of the game. It was one of the more accurate performances we have seen from a team this season, kicking 6.1 for the match.

Billie Holloway was impressive with three goals, but it was Sophie Anghie who performed the best. For Melbourne Uni, Frances Walsh was their best. Next up Melbourne Uni will host Fitzroy, whilst Old Scotch will play Kew in the match of the round.

Kew once again asserted their dominance as the biggest threat to SKOB in the premiership race, with a nine-point victory over fellow contenders Collegians. Whilst it wasn’t their most convincing game, Kew did enough to run out winners. Collegians were strong in the first quarter, however failed to score again for the rest of the match.

Georgia Harris kicked Collegians’ only goal, whilst Jenna Colwell was their best. Michaela Harding produced another strong performance for Kew, backing up last weekend’s best on ground performance against West Brunswick. Kew will host Old Scotch in a ladder-defining clash in Round 13, whilst Collegians will have an extended break with the bye to come following the Big V game.
