In a thrilling display of footy prowess, Canterbury, Elsternwick, Hawthorn, and Power House each secured resounding victories during Division 3 football’s action-packed Round 13.
Canterbury came out swinging and delivered a knockout performance against Richmond Central. It was neck-and-neck in the first half with scores level at the main change, but Canterbury turned up the heat in the third quarter, leaving their opponents in the dust. Eight goals to two after half-time signalled their intent.
Tom Lowden’s return to the side was nothing short of spectacular, bagging four goals and leading the Cobras to a solid 50-point win.
Jack Bilson put up a brave fight for Richmond, scoring four goals of his own, but in the end, Canterbury’s unyielding spirit earned them a well-deserved spot in the top four.
Elsternwick left no room for doubt with a dominating display against Wattle Park. It was a one-sided affair as Elsternwick unleashed their firepower, trouncing Wattle Park with a massive 125-point margin. Seven goals in the opening term set up the day, a 10-goal final quarter underlined the clinical nature of the victory.
Spencer Hankin was the star of the show, dazzling the crowd with a stunning eight-goal performance. The win was not just big; it was historic. Elsternwick now sits proudly at the top of the ladder, proving they mean business this season.
Hawthorn were able to kick their second highest score of the season against La Trobe University over the weekend. For the third time in their last four matches the Hawks have kicked over 100 points in a game. Hawthorn showed their championship pedigree, pulling away from La Trobe and producing a commanding 93-point victory.
Justin Raiti and William Meehan put on a goal-scoring clinic, racking up an impressive tally for the Hawks. Kudos to La Trobe’s Matthew Ogle, who fought tooth and nail, bagging five goals for his team. The win firmly secures Hawthorn’s spot in third place on the ladder.
Power House flexed their muscles bulldozing Swinburne University with a whopping 96-point triumph. This win was crucial for Power House’s finals ambitions, and they left no room for doubt about their intentions. The House remains a game behind Wattle Park in fourth spot with five weeks to go.
Michael Timmons led the charge, bagging six goals and inspiring his team to a dominant performance. Swinburne University had their moments, but it wasn’t enough to stop the powerhouse that is Power House. For the second game in a row Sean Scotland put in a best on ground display. Perhaps the fate of the 2023 season lays in their Round 15 match up against the Animals, but they won’t want to be resting on their laurels.
