Stalemate steals the show as Xavs and Tigers go toe-to-toe
Round 6 of Premier B Women’s had something for everyone, with the competition bearing witness to the first draw of the season, a top of the table clash, and another
The VAFA Premier B Women’s competition was a dramatic one in 2024, with Williamstown CYMS the standout home & away team, going a perfect 16-0, only to then bow out of the finals in straight sets via losses to the 2nd ranked Old Geelong & 3rd ranked Fitzroy.
Those two teams then met on Grand Final Day, with the OGs hoisting the premiership cup after a nail-biting decider at Elsternwick Park.
Each VAFA Team of the Year is based on feedback and analysis from coaches, VAFA Media and umpires.
Here is the 2024 Premier B Women’s Team of the Year:
Premiers Old Geelong have five representatives, including League Best & Fairest Brooke McKay as captain, alongside the Coach of the Year, Jack Crameri. Leading goalkicker Matilda Arthur (38 goals), Sam Davis and Grand Final hero Sophia Rothfield also feature from the OGs.
Fourth placed St Bedes/Mentone Tigers had 4 representatives with Eliza Cooper holding down a key defensive post, Maddi Wilson lining up in a forward pocket and Belinda Ousley and Georgia Ricardo providing depth off the bench.
Minor premiers Williamstown CYMS have three representatives, with Kiara Palmar on a wing and dynamic goalkicking duo Loren Mills (32 goals) and Alessia Acquaro (24) forming part of this dangerous forward line.
Eventual runners-up Fitzroy also have three reps, with Olivia Bennett & Sarah Lynas across half-back, joined by onballer Georgina Bennett.
Westbourne returned to VAFA action in 2024 and ended up with three representatives – Jade Desira down back, along with Manaia Huta on the wing and Kiara Henry at half-forward.
Old Xaverians have two players in the line-up – Amy Benifer at centre half-back and Chiara Chiarelli rotating in off the bench.
Two also for Beaumaris – the Sharks represented by Sienna Tedde and Cassandra Newman, while Meg Dargan flies the flag for Aquinas.
All up, a fantastic line-up worthy of representing Premier B Women’s.
Our congratulations to all players who have received the honour this season!
