As we celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025 (19–25 May), the VAFA proudly thanks the amazing volunteers who are the heart of our clubs. From setting up early in the morning to packing up late at night, from coaching and helping in the canteen to timekeeping and managing teams, our volunteers help community football grow and succeed.
Across our 66 clubs, volunteers come from all backgrounds & cultures, each bringing their own skills, passion, and dedication. Whether it’s a life member who’s been helping for years or a parent lending a hand on game day, every volunteer plays an important and valued role.
To date, the VAFA proudly has nearly 1,000 volunteers who generously dedicate their time to support and grow our football community. From overseeing training sessions and organising key events such as charity initiatives, Pride Round, TYF, BCNA-themed rounds, to maintaining club facilities their contributions are countless. Whether it is coaching players or managing vital administrative duties, their roles are wide-ranging and essential.
At this year’s William Buck VAFA Season Launch, the VAFA proudly awarded Certificates of Merit to James Legoe (Old Geelong), Matthew Nicholas (MHSOB), Matt Cosgrave (Old Xaverians), John Fogarty (St Kevin’s), and Dean Boden (Therry Penola) in recognition of their outstanding service and dedication to their respective clubs over a period of 15 years or more.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we encourage all clubs to take a moment to recognise and thank their volunteers. Whether it’s a social media post, a personal message, or a thank you in person, every bit of appreciation matters.
On behalf of the VAFA management, we’d like to say: Thank you for everything you do, both on and off the field!
Also, each year, VAFA runs monthly and yearly awards to recognise volunteers who live out the VAFA values and give countless hours to support their clubs. Nominations for The Pass Volunteer of the Month (May) award are now open. To nominate, please click here.
Nominations are now open for the Toyota AFL National Volunteer Awards! Clubs are encouraged to nominate a deserving volunteer who has made a positive impact at their club. Click the link to nominate your chosen volunteer.
Let’s keep celebrating and supporting the volunteers who help make our football community great.
