Ormond recorded a comprehensive win on the road at Elsternwick Park to maintain top spot, whilst Elsternwick continue searching for their first win of the season in Division 3 Women’s.
Ormond started the match strongly, kicking two first-quarter goals. Their scoreboard dominance continued in the second term, with a further three goals added to extend the margin to 37 points at the main break.
Ormond were efficient with their ball movement, applying the pressure in the defensive 50 and not allowing any easy options for Elsternwick, although the Wickers looked to put in their best efforts possible.
Whilst Ormond kicked three goals in the third quarter, Elsternwick should be credited for their last quarter efforts and strong finish, keeping Ormond goalless whilst booting a major of their own to finish the match strong.
Indiana Harrison had a fantastic game keeping up her brilliant form, booting three goals for the game.
St Mary’s Salesian continued their surge towards the top two, beating fellow top four contenders Mazenod by 67 points away from home at Central Reserve.
Brianna Burt was on song for St Mary’s, kicking five goals and setting the tone for a statement victory. St Mary’s benefited from Burt’s performance, registering their third best score of the season.
Inaccuracy proved a difference, kicking 9.15, in what could have been an opportunity to boost their percentage more as they surge for a top two finish on the ladder. Skye Bakic was best on for the Saints.
Albert Park extended their winning streak to three on the trot, beating a resilient Prahran side by 16 points at Bill Woodful Oval.
Credit to Prahran, who were competitive in the first half and challenged Albert Park finding any easy access in the forward 50.
Inaccurate goal kicking hampered Albert Park in the last quarter, with three-goals to 11, having opportunities to extend the margin. All in all a competitive match that sees Albert Park stand alone on 4-wins 3-losses in the middle of the table as we approach the half way mark of the season.
North Brunswick is another side that has found some recent form, winning 3 of their past 4 matches after a lackluster 0-3 start to the season. They have found some momentum in the competition and are most certainly not looking to slow down as they ascend the Div 3 ladder, with their match up against Wattle Park their most recent victory.
It was a nail-biting first quarter, with Ruby- Rose Gibson-Haywood hitting the scoreboard with an early margin, helping her side taking a four-point advantage at quarter time (6-2).
The second term opened up the scoring for North Brunswick, booting three goals for the quarter. A 4.1 quarter put the home side in control of the contest, with Chloe Hoskinson and Ruby- Rose Gibson-Haywood going to work and playing key roles.
The match between Old Camberwell and the South Melbourne Districts unfortunately resulted in a forfeit, with Old Camberwell taking the points.
Round 8 promises to be another fantastic round of must watch action around the grounds. With both sides on the up and finding themselves in a bout of form, Albert Park and North Brunswick face off in a mouthwatering fifth v sixth matchup.
Elsewhere, Elsternwick take on Old Camberwell at home, and South Melbourne take on St Mary’s. Wattle Park host Mazenod and Ormond look to continue their undefeated streak when they come up against Prahran.
