Over the weekend, more than 40 VAFA clubs came together to support the 2025 TAC Road Safety Round. This campaign is all about the important message: ‘slow down on our roads’ and our clubs have done an amazing job sharing this message throughout their communities.
Since mid-July, clubs across the VAFA have taken part in the campaign in various ways. Some clubs created powerful social media posts and videos featuring their players. Others held team dinners with road safety talks or organised education sessions during the week. Whether it was on or off the field, clubs showed real leadership and made sure their members understood why road safety matters.
A primary message of the 2025 TAC road safety campaign is centred around speeding. Sadly, speeding is one of the main causes of many road accidents and fatalities. In fact, it’s a factor in around 30% of deadly crashes in Victoria. That’s why the TAC is asking all road users especially young drivers to slow down and think before they drive. The VAFA community has helped share that message loud and clear by embracing the new TAC Slo-Mo initiative, producing fun and creative slow-motion footy action and tackling videos.
During the official TAC Road Safety Round from 25-27th July, clubs wore the blue ‘Band Together’ armbands to honour those impacted by road trauma. Players, coaches, volunteers, and even supporters took part showing a united front.
But the campaign hasn’t stopped there. Some clubs have chosen to run their TAC-themed round this weekend or in the next couple of weeks to match with their home games. This means even more people can hear the message, see the armbands, and learn about road safety in their own communities.
The VAFA would like to thank all clubs who have taken part in the TAC Road Safety Round thus far. There is still time to take part in the campaign and strengthen your club’s application for the TAC Club Rewards Program, which closes on Monday 25th August 2025.
All clubs are encouraged to take part in in the program. By simply signing up to the TAC Club Rewards Program, championing road safety at your club, and getting your community involved, you can earn crucial funding for your club, as well as having a lasting impact in the community.
If your club needs support, assistance with your application, or ideas for ways to get your club involved, please reach out to Pranav Menon ([email protected]) from the VAFA’s Community & Club Development team.
The TAC Road Safety Round is an integral part of the VAFA calendar, and it is great to see so many clubs take part. This campaign is about more than football, it is about protecting lives and setting an example for everyone in our community.
To all VAFA clubs, thank you again. Your hard work, care, and commitment to spreading the TAC message shows the strength of our competition. Please keep pushing the message over the next few weeks and continue to be the difference.
Let’s work together to help make Victorian roads safer for everyone. One life lost is one too many.
