100 Years of the Big V: Part 2

By VAFA Media · July 30, 2025
100 Years of the Big V: Part 2

Onto part two of the 100 Years of the Big V series, focusing on the years between 1975 and 2000. Watch the video below.

The four-part video series was played at the recent Big V Centenary Gala Dinner, held at Centrepiece at Melbourne Park on Thursday 10th July. Part 1 was released last week – watch it here.

Part 2: 1975 – 2000

The Big V was challenged more fiercely throughout the 1970s and into the ‘80s, leading the VAFA to invest more time, energy and strategic planning into ensuring it remained at the front of the representative footy pack.

The 1980s saw the creation of the first Premier-Divisional team, while the final Amateur Carnival was played in 1994 – the Big V dominant once again to claim another national title.

The remaining two parts of ‘100 Years of the Big V’ will be released on VAFA.com.au over the next two Wednesday’s.
