The 2026 Premier C Men’s fixture has dropped, and it promises to be a fascinating season, with plenty of coaching changes, a couple of accomplished teams returning from Premier B, along with a couple of promising teams rising up from Division 1 to make what is shaping up to be a deep, highly competitive section.
The season will open with a revealing match-up between last year’s Division 1 champion, Old Peninsula, hosting one of the teams coming down from Premier B, Hampton Rovers. It’s not often we see a match-up between two teams who were two sections apart just seven months ago, and this game could help set the early tone for the competition.
2025 proved a brutally tough season for Rovers, who went winless after reaching the 2024 Premier C Grand Final. They return to Premier C determined to recapture that 2024 dominance under new senior coach Paul Carrigan, who steps up from coaching the Rovers’ Under 19 team.
Another intriguing Round 1 match-up will see two teams with a burning desire to atone for 2025 disappointment go head-to-head at E.E.Gunn Reserve as Ormond, who went undefeated in Division 1 until falling to Old Peninsula on Grand Final Day, begin their journey by hosting last season’s Premier C minor premiers, Parkdale Vultures.
The Vultures went 17-1 in the home-and-away season and are expected to be flag contenders once again. They will be hellbent to take the next step after being bundled out of the 2025 finals in straight sets, while the Monders will be just as keen to prove they belong in Premier C by claiming an early scalp.
Fitzroy return to Premier C after back-to-back relegations, and will be keen to stabilise their program and begin their build back up to the top echelon with a strong 2026. The Roys, under new coach and favourite son Jack Dalton, will begin by hosting Marcellin at Brunswick Street Oval, with Patrick O’Callaghan taking the reins at the Eagles.
PEGS showed some promising signs in 2025, and will look to step up and challenge for finals footy this year. They will open their campaign by hosting Glen Eira/Old McKinnon, who begin a fresh chapter under experienced senior coach, Brett Dunne.
St Bede’s/Mentone Tigers are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Premier C flag (that ended up being Part 1 of their legendary premiership hat-trick) and would love history to repeat in 2026. Finalists last season, the Tigers will have high hopes of building on that foundation and will host Mazenod first up.
The Nodders have appointed Team of the Century champion Andrew Pickering as their new senior coach and will be keen to make an opening round statement at Mentone Reserve.
The season will feature two byes – the King’s Birthday on June 6, followed by a bye to accommodate the Big V’s Premier B – Division 3 clash against the Goulburn Valley League at Elsternwick Park on July 11.
The final round of the home & away season will take place on Saturday August 29 and will be directly followed by a three week Finals Series kicking off on the weekend of September 5-6.
