Division 2 Women’s Round in Review

By Oscar Ludtke · May 6, 2026
Division 2 Women’s Round in Review

Round 3 was big with UHS-VU and Richmond Central. remaining undefeated, and impressive wins from Beaumaris and Old Camberwell.

UHS-VU took on Hampton Rovers for the Round 3 clash at Brens Oval, with a strong start to the game for UHS-VU, including a goal from Georgia Taylor early on before Hampton Rovers bounced back. In the second term, UHS-VU started to pull away with two goals thanks to Bess Schnioffsky and Hannah Greaves.
After half-time, UHS-VU continued to apply pressure on the scoreboard with another goal going unanswered before Hampton Rovers replied with a goal in the last term. However, it wasn’t enough, as UHS-VU went on to win.
UHS-VU Coach Tim Rocke said, “It was a quality game of footy, with the ball transitioning from end to end pretty consistently. We managed to capitalise on that transition through our captain Hannah Greaves, as well as Holli Brindle, who made an impact in her first game of the season.”
UHS-VU remain undefeated as they go up against MCC next week.

It was a tight contest between MCC and Richmond Central. The game started strong for Richmond with an early goal before MCC equalised through Ellen Pratt.
In the second quarter, Richmond kicked two early goals before MCC grabbed one back before half-time.
A goal late in the last quarter saw Richmond hold on and remain undefeated in a nail-biter. Richmond Central Coach Bronte Ryan said, “A very even and close contest. We started strong with some early scoreboard pressure but found it difficult to keep clean possession at times.”
“In the end, we went back to our basics and, through some really brave efforts from our forwards Mia Torquetto and Erin Eldon, we were able to find a way to win with a last-minute goal.”
It was the first loss of the season for MCC. Coach Sebastian Mueller said, “This week was an opportunity to test ourselves against a more experienced and very competitive side, and we’ll take away a lot of learnings from this game.
“We knew heading into the game that Richmond Central would challenge us around the contest with their work rate and stoppage craft, which was evident from the first few minutes of the game and stayed consistent all game.
“Despite not quite getting the result we were aiming for, our young playing group embraced the opportunity to compete against Richmond’s experienced side, and it’s given the team great belief that once they play more games together and get a better understanding of each other’s strengths, we’ll be able to match it with this division’s stronger sides.”

Beaumaris took on Caulfield Grammarians at William Street Reserve, with Beaumaris starting strong with six goals in the first quarter, leaving Caulfield stunned. The second term wasn’t any easier for Caulfield, with Beaumaris kicking another three going into the break, leading 60–0, with goals coming from everywhere.
It was standout performances everywhere for Beaumaris, with Lara Barker, Pippy Barrow, Gaby Trajer, Lexi Kapper and Zoe Smith leading the charge.
Caulfield showed discipline in the third term, keeping Beaumaris to only two goals; however, they were outclassed by a strong Beaumaris side.
Caulfield Coach Lach Worthy said, “Beaumaris were simply too strong and too skilled across all lines. While we showed glimpses of strong ball movement and teamwork, it wasn’t enough to put any scoreboard pressure on them.
“With such a young and inexperienced development squad, we will keep working on our fundamentals and prepare for next week.”
Beaumaris finished the game off with an incredible seven-goal term. Coach George Kappa said, “A solid display of teamwork and a four-quarter effort. Finishing with seven goals in the last quarter and a total of 11 different goal kickers was a strong result for us.
“The development of our teamwork was most important and pleasing for us coaches. What we practice in training we need to transition into game day, and our girls did that brilliantly.”
Beaumaris take on an undefeated Richmond Centrals side next week.

An afternoon game down at Gordon Barnard Reserve saw Old Camberwell take on Old Yarra, with both teams looking to secure their first win of the season. Old Camberwell dominated the contest from the opening siren and came away with a convincing 71-point win, holding Old Yarra scoreless.
Old Yarra Coach Bree Pascoe said, “With the odds stacked heavily against us this week, injuries and low player availability took their toll, forcing several players to back up after already playing a game earlier in the day.
“Despite the challenging circumstances, the group showed great determination from the outset. The ball spent much of the match in the opposition’s half, with our side struggling to transition it beyond the centre.
“To the backline’s credit, they stood tall under relentless attack and continued to compete strongly. When we were able to spread the ball to the outside, we showed glimpses of what we are capable of, linking up with some promising passages of play, although these moments were limited.”
It was standout work from all areas on the ground, which helped Old Camberwell in their decisive win. Coach Nick Hooper said, “Nice for the girls to register their first win in emphatic style. Bridget Facey and Jules Richards were great in front of goal, whilst Briony Mellor and Grace Deane were super in the midfield. Our defence let nothing through, led by Eliza Hynes.”
