Old Yarra Breakthrough Win & Hawthorn Climb the Ladder

By Isaac McCloud · June 30, 2026
Old Yarra Breakthrough Win & Hawthorn Climb the Ladder

The Cobras break through for their first win of the season, while the Hawks keep clawing up the ladder in Round 10 of Division 3 Women’s.

Old Yarra 1.6 (12) def Caulfield 1.1 (7)

Old Yarra have notched their first win for the season in a close encounter with Caulfield. It involved extremely wet conditions, with both teams struggling to hit the scoreboard.

Old Yarra coach Bree Pascoe expressed her pride in her team’s performance.

“In tough, slippery conditions, the team dug deep to record their first win of the season in a gritty, hard-fought battle. It wasn’t pretty at times, but the effort, pressure and determination never wavered as the team fought for every contest right to the final siren.”

“After weeks of hard work without reward, it was a special feeling to finally sing the song together. This win was built on resilience, teamwork and belief, and the emotion afterwards showed just how much it meant to everyone involved.”

Pascoe also spoke about why this win meant more for the team than usual.

“The day was made even more special as we celebrated Rachel Powell’s 100th game for the club. Rachel has been a reliable and committed defender for so many years, always putting the team first and leading through her actions. To celebrate her milestone with our first win of the year made the moment even sweeter.”

Caulfield coach Lachy Worthy reflected on his team’s effort constructively.

“In very slippery conditions both teams found it hard to move the ball cleanly. It became a battle of territory and Old Yarra were able to drive the ball longer and take more of their opportunities than we were. We managed to fight it out right to the end but couldn’t hit the scoreboard enough.”

Worthy also highlighted some individual performances.

“Eva Mackevicius and Lilly Ellis battled hard in the midfield, while Bella Bet and Fi Adinata provided plenty of intercepts across half back. We will regroup and get ready to go again next week.”

This week sees Caulfield face Prahan/Collegians and Old Yarra play Old Haileybury at home.

Prahran/Collegians 1.1 (7) def by Parkdale 5.7 (37)

Parkdale have continued their winning ways and returned solely to the top of the ladder.

The Vultures kept the opposition goalless for three quarters, with Prahran/Collegians kicking their lone goal in the final term.

Vultures coach Jess Welford was pleased with her team’s effort. “Despite the slippery conditions, we used the ball well, applied strong pressure and finished strongly. It was a great team effort with everyone contributing and supporting each other. A lot of positives, with still plenty to build on moving forward.”

This week sees Parkdale play Hawthorn while Prahran/Collegians come up against Caulfield.

Hawthorn 5.6 (36) def Old Haileybury 4.6 (30)

Hawthorn have clawed up another rung on the ladder after defeating the Hearts. The Hawks are now sitting second, only four points off first.

With the scores equal at three-quarter-time, it was Aaron Miller’s Hawks who were able to capitalise holding the Hearts to a singular point in the fourth, whilst kicking a one goal and one behind themselves.

The win moves Hawthorn level on points with Old Haileybury and with a higher percentage. This week sees the Hawks play first placed Parkdale as they look to claw another spot whilst the Hearts face Old Yarra.
