Nailbiters Galore as Marcellin become New Ladder Leaders

Round 11 of Division 1 Women’s delivered several tight contests, with three matches decided by seven points or fewer.

Marcellin claimed top spot on the ladder after a hard-fought victory over Power House, while Whitefriars and La Trobe University both secured narrow wins in low-scoring contests.

Whitefriars 2.8 (20) def Old Carey 2.7 (17)

Whitefriars held on in a thrilling three-point victory over Old Carey in a tightly fought contest.

In a match where both defences stood tall, neither side was able to create much separation on the scoreboard, with the final margin reflecting just how close the contest was throughout the afternoon.

Both teams finished with two majors each, battling hard in the difficult scoring conditions.

Carly Notting was outstanding for Whitefriars and was named their best player, playing an important role in helping her side secure the valuable four points.

For Old Carey, Sophia Davey was their standout performer and led the way in a strong showing, despite the narrow defeat.

La Trobe University claimed a two-point victory over Oakleigh in another low-scoring affair.

The contest was a defensive battle from the opening bounce, with neither side able to find consistent scoreboard impact.

Yasmine Budic was La Trobe University’s best player, providing a strong performance throughout the contest and helping her side lock in their second win of the season.

For Oakleigh, Georgia Nancarrow was recognised as the side’s best player after another impressive individual performance.

Despite the result, Oakleigh showed plenty of fight and will be looking to turn competitive performances into wins as the season progresses.

Power House 3.6 (24) def by Marcellin 5.1 (31)

Marcellin has moved to the top of the Division 1 Women’s ladder after defeating Power House by seven points.

The clash was another tightly contested encounter, with both sides producing strong defensive performances throughout the afternoon.

Marcellin managed to create enough opportunities in attack to finish strongly and produce an important victory.

Tania Carpinteri led the way for Marcellin and was named their best player, playing a key role in the important victory that lifted the side into first place.

For Power House, Georgia McHolmes was their standout performer and continued her strong season despite the narrow defeat.

The win marks another vital step forward in Marcellin’s season as they continue their push towards finals, while Power House remains firmly in the hunt near the top of the ladder.

Monash Blues 2.3 (15) def by Ormond 3.3 (21)

Ormond secured a six-point victory over Monash Blues in another closely contested Division 1 Women’s battle.

The Blues and Monders fought out a low-scoring contest, with Ormond eventually holding on to claim the four premiership points.

Olivia Steinfort was Ormond’s best player, leading from the front and helping her side get over the line in a hard-fought contest.

For Monash Blues, Caitlin Williams was their strongest performer and continued to provide plenty of impact throughout the match.

The result keeps Ormond within touching distance of the top sides, while Monash Blues will be looking to bounce back in the coming rounds, as the finals race continues to take shape.
