Marcellin look strong as Power House book Grand Final berth – Division 1 Women’s Finals Week 1 Review

Power House have secured their place in the VAFA Division 1 Women’s Grand Final after defeating top-seed Ormond by 14 points in a hard-fought opening final.

Ormond entered the contest as the competition’s top-ranked side but were unable to overcome a strong Power House outfit.

Lauren Boyle proved the difference on the scoreboard for Power House, booting four of her side’s seven goals to lead the attack.

Grace Read, Sinead Doorley, Joelly Firmin, Georgia McHolmes, Lily Butler-Woollard and Zoe Uwland were among Power House’s best in the victory.

For Ormond, Isabella Gietzmann was the only multiple goalkicker, finishing with two majors, while Eliza Cooper, Gisele Hennequin, Tayla McAlroy, Izabela Ignjic, Kitty Smyth and Olivia Steinfort were named among the side’s best.

The result sends Power House straight through to the Grand Final, while Ormond will now face Marcellin in a Preliminary Final on Saturday morning with a place in the decider on the line.

Marcellin have kept their premiership hopes alive with a commanding 29-point victory over Monash.

The Eagles controlled the contest and kept the Blues to just one goal as they booked a preliminary final clash with Ormond.

Marcellin shared the goals around, with five individual goalkickers finding the scoreboard in a strong team performance.

Charlotte McGilp, Laura Robertson, Maddy Rush, Jennae Wakefield and T. Zagontinos each contributed a goal as Marcellin’s spread of scoring options proved difficult for Monash to contain.

Robertson and McGilp led the way among Marcellin’s best, with Alana Pane, Ebony Spencer, Jasmine Getson and Billie Harvey also making important contributions.

Monash fought hard despite the result, with Anna Purtill, Ruby Hancock, Emily Conroy, Caitlin Williams, Ruby Rosas and Gabrielle Perry standing out.

The loss brings Monash’s season to an end, while Marcellin advances to a do-or-die Preliminary Final against Ormond on Saturday morning.

With Power House already through to the Grand Final, Saturday’s preliminary final will decide who joins them in the Division 1 premiership decider.
