Gietzmann brilliance sends Ormond into Grand Final – Division 1 Women’s Preliminary Final Review

Ormond 5.3 (33) def Marcellin 3.1 (19)

Ormond has booked their place in the Division 1 Women’s Grand Final after overcoming Marcellin by 14 points in a thrilling Preliminary Final.

The victory sets up a Grand Final showdown with Power House, with Ormond earning its spot after a see-sawing contest that went down to the final term.

The Eagles had a stronger start, controlling the opening quarter to take a six-point lead into the first break, with Ormond unable to trouble the scoreboard.

The second term belonged to the Monders, who responded with two unanswered goals to completely shift the momentum.

Indianna Harrison opened Ormond’s account before Isabella Gietzmann added another major, giving the Monders a six-point advantage at the main break.

Marcellin refused to let the game slip away, however, they responded strongly after half-time, kicking two goals without reply to reclaim the lead in the third quarter and take a five-point advantage into the final change.

With a Grand Final spot on the line, Ormond produced its best football.

Gietzmann took control of the contest in the final term, booting two goals to finish with three for the afternoon and repeatedly proving the difference in attack.

Tayla McAlroy also found the goals as Ormond overturned the deficit and established control of the contest.

Gietzmann’s third goal late in the final term ultimately sealed the result, as Ormond held on to record a hard-fought 14-point victory.

The win capped off a remarkable fightback from the Monders, who will now turn their attention to Power House and a chance to claim the Division 1 Women’s Premiership.

For Marcellin, the defeat brings an end to their season after a brave finals campaign, while Ormond advances to the Grand Final with plenty of momentum after producing when it mattered most.

Ormond will face Power House in the Division 1 Women’s Grand Final who they just played a recently in week one of the finals. Power House won by 14 points in this clash but expect this to tighten even more from the intensity of the final day.

The Monders have yet to win this matchup in 2026 but are the number one defence up against the top offence, so it will be intriguing to see the battle at each end.
