TWO CLUBS LOSE TWO GREAT PEOPLE

The VAFA community send their thoughts and best wishes to all at Manningham Cobras and Old Xaverians this weekend as both clubs return to the field after some tragic news during the bye week.
Last weekend, Rodney ‘Rocket’ Sheehan, who was Vice President of the Manningham Cobras died tragically in a ski-boat accident in South Australia.
Rod, and his family, have had a long association with the club for many years.  Just last year Rod’s daughter Jess, was awarded the VAFA trainer of the year in 2013.
Rod was this year fulfilling the role of vice president at the Cobras, but his involvement with the Club stemmed back for close to 40 years where he has been a player, coach, administrator, life member and passionate supporter.
Without the long term continued hard work & support from Rod and a few others the Cobras might not have survived some desperate times only a relatively short time ago.  Rod loved the club and there was no more happy person around when we had a win.
Rod also instilled his love of the Cobras into all members of his family with wife Eva, spending time in the past as secretary amongst many other things. His daughter Jess, was last year both head trainer & secretary. His son Cameron is a player (and vice-captain of the Reserves) and daughter Mal has commenced this year as an assistant trainer.
Everyone at Manningham Cobras and the wider VAFA community extend their best wishes and support to Eva, Jess, Cam & Mal as best they can at this most sad time.
At Old Xaverians, everyone at the club was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of former club secretary Tony Hulett last Friday.
Tony was the father of past players Nick and Simon, Tony was a fantastic and loyal supporter of the Old Xavs. A long serving member of the Committee, Tony served as Club Secretary in 2007 and then again in 2011 and 2012.
Over the last two years, although not on the Old Xaverians committee, Tony continued to attend games every week, quite often going to Under 19, Thirds, or Crocs games, and was very much the club’s ‘go to man’ for matters requiring legal advice.
In last weekend’s senior representative match against AFL Queensland, the four players and senior coach Simon Lethlean all wore black armbands in honour of Tony.
The VAFA and Old Xaverians send their thoughts and best wishes to Margot, Nick, Simon, Amy, and the extended Hulett family at this sad time.
