UPDATE ON DIVISION 4 FOR 2014

By VAFA · December 20, 2013
UPDATE ON DIVISION 4 FOR 2014

The VAFA would like to confirm a number of changes amongst some of our clubs  in Division 4 ahead of the 2014 season.
The VAFA accepted a request by Old Westbourne to change their name to Wyndham Suns for the 2014 season onwards. Old Westbourne were relegated to Division 4 from Division 3 at the end of the 2013 season and they will attempt to bounce back in 2014 under the club name of Wyndham Suns.
Wyndham Suns have appointed Phillip Ballis as their senior coach for 2014 and will play their home matches at Goddard St Reserve, Tarneit.
This week AFL Victoria accepted an application from a new club, Westbourne Grammarians to enter the VAFA. The VAFA Board has allowed the new club Westbourne Grammarians to enter the senior competition in Division 4 for the 2014 season.
Westbourne Grammarians have appointed Roger Hand as their senior coach for 2014 and will play their home matches on the school grounds of Westbourne Grammar.
VAFA CEO Michael Sholly was excited about the introduction of a new club in Melbourne’s West.
“The inclusion of Westbourne Grammarians will set up an internal three-way rivalry in the western suburbs. The VAFA is keen to consolidate in this area to ensure that people in the western suburbs of Melbourne have an opportunity to play amateur football,” Mr Sholly said.
Division 4 club Mt Lilydale Old Collegians have advised the VAFA that they will be returning to the Club XVIII competition in 2014 as they seek to rebuild the club. Mt Lilydale have appointed Ben Oakes as their new head coach and the club has indicated it is their intention to return to playing senior football in Division 4 in 2015.
The above changes mean that Division 4 will be an eleven-team competition in 2014. Fixtures for the 2014 season will be finalised after the Christmas – New Year break when the VAFA offices re-open on 16th January.
The VAFA is delighted with the make up of clubs in Division 4. The Section demonstrates the variety of Melbourne and offers a fantastic base for any club wishing to enter the VAFA with an ambition of playing in a safe, dynamic and enjoyable community football competition, all for the love of the game.
