Caulfield Grammarians Football Club, also known from time to time as Old Caulfield Grammarians, is the equal-second oldest consecutively competing team in the VAFA. The team entered the competition in 1920, and has competed continuously since that time (competition was suspended from 1940 to 1945 during World War II). The Fields have had seasons in the top five sections of the VAFA, but their high point came in 1970 when the club reached the summit of the VAFA, winning the club’s one and only A Section premiership. The 1970 Grand Final was the smallest margin in A Section deciders, the Fields outlasting Coburg to win by two points, 15.12.102 to 15.10.100. The Fields picked up a senior premiership in C Section in 1983, before a slide through the sections saw them resurface in 1998 to win the E Section flag. That E Section premiership made Caulfield one of three clubs to win premierships in at least five sections, joining Uni Blacks as the only club to win a flag in the top five sections. Their next triumph was a Premier B premiership in 2011, a staggering 86 years since their last triumph at that level. Unfortunately, that led to a disastrous 0-18 season in Premier the following year. Since then the Fields have stabilised as they look to again make an assault to get back to the top grade. That assault came to fruition with the Premier B flag in 2019 – the same year they won their first women’s flag (Premier B). In 2017, they entered a team in the Premier section of the VAFA women’s competition despite being in their first year of existence followed by a senior and reserves in 2018.
