Old Brighton Football Club have had a couple of incarnations. They first entered a team as Old Brightonians in the VAFA in 1921-22, before missing the 1923 season. The club was back for 1924-26, before another hiatus until the period of 1932-39. Old Brighton Grammarians as we know them today had their house in order again in 1957 and the club commenced in what was then F Section (Division 2). Whilst the club managed to climb out of F Section by virtue of a runners-up finish, a first senior flag took 20 years, the club eventually saluting for the 1977 D Section premiership. A majority of this team were around to be a part of the 1980 C Section flag. The following two senior triumphs have also been a long time in coming; a 17-year wait for their first B Section premiership before a 16-year gap before they won the Premier B title in 2013. Following a three-year stint back in Premier B, the Tonners claimed the seniors and reserves flag under Premier Coach of the Year Greg Hutchison in 2017, the same year they entered a team in Development Division 1 of the VAFA Women’s competition. They impressed in 2018 with a fourth-placed finish under Hutchison and young star, Anthony Zimmerman, was named their second Grill’d in three years after Harry Hill in 2016. Old Brighton’s highest-ever finish in the VAFA was their runner-up performance in 2007 in A Section.
