TRINITY JUMP UP

On Bulleen Road it was the two home sides that collected the four points in sunny conditions for most of the day. Old Carey defeated St Bedes / Mentone Tigers by 53 points and like salt to the wound, the Tigers returned to the bottom two.  Trading places with the Brindisians is Trinity who had 6 goal three quarter time lead that they turned into a 10 goal win over St Bernards,. In doing so traded places with the Tigers on the Premier ladder. At Waverly Park De La Salle faced a Collegians side smarting from their first loss of the year last week, and the Lions never managed to hit the front. Da La saluting by nine. Old Xaverians hosted Old Scotch at Xavier College, with the home side headed at quarter time before first overtaking then driving away to a 40 point win, with Matt Handley kicking six. Caulfied host Uni Blues at Sportscover tomorrow, entry is free for a 1.20pm start. 

In Premier B, Ajax hosted Old Haileybury and visitors took the spoils with a win that keeps the pressure on the four. OH defeating the Jackers by 22. Beaumaris traveled to their bayside neighbours Old Brighton, with the Tonners mirroring the efforts of Haileybury in trying to find a way to finals action. Beaumaris will be disappointed in this result going down by 23. Old Melburnians hosted St Kevins and Skevs lost their second on the bounce by 35 points, Bennett booting four majors for the home side. University Black go top of Premier B after thrashing Oakleigh by Shane Warne’s highest test score. The Blacks got nine goals from Bismire and Matthews. Old Ivanhoe travelled to Werribee Districts and the home side managed to put a gap on the relegation places with a thumping win by 70 points. 

Premier C Fitzroy kicked 8.7 to 1.1  against PEGS in the first quarter and that margin was extended to 56 points at the final siren. Hampton Rovers faced Banyule and the visitors managed a 47 point win to leave the Rovers anchored to the bottom. In the afternoon’s low scoring game Mazenod outlasted Marcellin 47 to 27. Rupertswood continued the mid season resurgence defeating Monash Blues by 53 points with Brennan booting five. The final game saw Parkdale host Old Camberwell. The Weller’s season has stalled and they will need to find their form in the closing stages. Today they lost by 27 to a hungry Vultures side. 

In Division 1, Glen Eira won a magnificent contest by three points over Ormond. Ormond who filed to score in the first quarter came home strongest but fell just short. Old Mentonians held Williamstown CYMS to four goals for the day whilst kicking  and inaccurate 14.17 in a 74 point win.  Old Geelong hosted NOBs / St Pats and the visitors dished up the medicine at Como Park, running out winners by 29 points. Peninsula were all class entertaining their home supporters, kicking 26 goals for the afternoon. They ran out winners by 145 points over St Johns. MHSOBs lost to Whitefriars despite five from Orchard. 

In Division 2, Last time Prahran played Bulleen Templestowe the margin was triple figures in favour of Bulleen Temp, this time Prahran got closer but still went down by 10 points. Prahran Assumption lead by 40 points at half time but only managed three goals Bulleen Temp’s 12 in the second half. Old Paradians defeated South Melbourne by 11 points. Eltham handed out a hiding to La Trobe by 125 points, and Emmaus St Leo’s couldn’t upset Therry Penola, losing by a couple of goals. 

Division 3 saw a thumping 106 point win by Kew over Power House. For the winners the ‘razzle dazzle’ came from Andrew Brazzale as he booted 12.  A similarly large margin saw Ivanhoe account for Aquinas by 83 points. UHS – VU defeated Hawthorn by an extra 2 points on that of Ivanhoe’s win. Yarra Valley defeated Elsternwick in a high scoring affair by just five points. Both sides kicked over 20 goals with the final scores 138 to 133. Old Westbourne came from behind at quarter time to defeat St Francis Xavier by three goals. Richmond Central led at every change to eventually win by 14 points. 

In Division 4, Manningham Cobras fell 9 points short of Eley Park Sharks, the Sharks had more scoring shots – all of the behinds – winning 12.15 to 12.6. West Brunswick 81 defeated Mt Lilydale 58. While their Brunswick counterparts from the North defeated Chadstone by 115. South Mornington remain undefeated thumping Box Hill by 106, Albrecht with eight. The final game was a close one, Swinburne Uni outlasting Point Cook to win by eight points 108 to 100 at home.
