The VAFA community was pleased to see another one of our former players do so well recently with Joel Cross last week winning the SANFL’s Magarey Medal.
Cross, who currently plays for South Adelaide shared the medal with Central’s Brad Symes after both players ended up on 18 votes.
Joel Cross started his VAFA career in 2006 in the U19s at Old Xaverians before he moved to Old Camberwell in 2007.
In his first year at Old Camberwell he won the club’s best and fairest in a Premiership year to signal his football talent to the world.
Over the next two seasons Joel continued to play games with Old Camberwell but by this stage he was also playing at Box Hill Hawks, he then had a stint at Scoresby before his move to South Adelaide two seasons ago.
The onballer capped off a stellar season to tie for the 2012 Magarey Medal after polling maximum votes against North Adelaide and Glenelg to finish on 18 votes.
It’s the second time Cross has won a competition best and fairest as he won the VFL Reserves Todd Medal when playing for Box Hill.
