Emmaus St Leos won their ninth game from nine outings with an 80-point win over Hawthorn at Bennettswood Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon. Matthew Lalor starred with six goals as the Animals piled on 13 second-half goals to five. Richard Ogge’s haul of five did little to halt the Animals as they put an end to the Hawks three-game winning streak.
Glen Eira has withstood a fourth-quarter comeback from Swinburne University to hold on and win by 10 points at Packer Reserve. The Saints held a 29-point lead heading into the last quarter, but five goals to two quickly put the pressure back on the front-runners in the dying minutes of the match. Daniel Entwistle kicked five for Glen Eira, who have now won three in a row.
UHS-VU has held on to defeat La Trobe University by three goals at La Trobe University’s Sporting Complex. A 10-goal to five second half saw La Trobe make a valiant comeback, but the Vulture’s Jack Bishop was able to settle and regain the momentum for his side at important stages with two massive goals from outside the 50m arc. Victory has ensured the Vultures climb above Swinburne into the top four, while La Trobe remain settled at the bottom of the ladder.
West Brunswick battled a case of the yips in front of goal to run out 97-point winners against Eley Park Sharks at Ransford Oval. Despite kicking 17 goals and 25 behinds, the Magpies were far too strong for the Sharks, with Warwick Baker kicking a pair of majors on his way to claiming best-on-ground.
