St Bedes/Mentone Tigers dominated from the outset to record a 63-point win against Hampton Rovers at Boss James Reserve. Leading by two points at quarter-time, the Tigers sent through another 14 goals to five in the remaining three terms on the back of Luke Velluto’s five majors. Patrick Tyquin was best-on-ground as the Tigers extended their current winning streak to three games.
Old Brighton confirmed their top four credentials with a 43-point drubbing of eighth-placed Mazenod at Brighton Beach Oval. Four goals and a best-on-ground display from Charlie King helped the Tonners as they led from start to finish, solidifying their spot among the best sides in the upper echelon of the Premier B ladder. Josh Cowan fought hard for the losing side as they conceded their third loss in a row.
St Kevins survived a genuine scare from Fitzroy, coming from behind to record a 25-point win and continue their unbeaten start to the season. The Roys gave it everything they had in the first three quarters, leading by two goals going into the last term, before a six goal to one final quarter sank any aspirations of an upset win. Stephen Gilham continued his red-hot form for SKOB, while Tom Cheshire was best for the Roys.
Old Melburnians registered their seventh win for the season as they narrowly edged out Ajax by three points in a low scoring affair at Gary Smorgon Oval. With neither side setting the scoreboard alight, the Jackers missed opportunities cost them dearly as they finished with 6.13 compared to the Redlegs’ 7.10. The win keeps the Redlegs in third and one game clear of the Tonners, while the Jackers remain seventh with a worrying percentage of 77.18.
Parkdale Vultures lifted themselves two spots off the bottom of the ladder with a three-point win against Caulfield Grammarians at Gerry Green Reserve. Trailing by nine points at half-time, the Vultures kicked 6.9 to 5.3 in the second half, with Joshua Green and Josh Manning contributing two goals each. The loss leaves the Fields dwindling in last position on the ladder with only two wins for the season.
