MHSOB continued their winning form by dismantling Elsternwick to the tune of 99 points at Sportscover Arena. Leading from start to finish, the Unicorns restricted the Wickers to just five majors for the match, while sending home 20 of their own. Steve Villani was best-on-ground on the back of four majors for the Unicorns. The win leaves the Melbourne High boys in sixth position on the ladder and two matches outside the top four.
Ivanhoe played themselves back onto the winners’ list with a stirring come-from-behind victory over Old Paradians at Ivanhoe Park. Trailing by 21 points at the last break, the Hoes stood up and kicked six goals to one in the final term to run over the top of the Raiders. Mitchell Lovell remains third on the Division 2 goal kicking list following his three majors. Both sides are set to play finals footy, with the Hoes leading the standings and the Raiders in third.
Monash Gryphons caused a mini-upset with a 57-point win against Richmond Central at East Caulfield Reserve this afternoon. The Gryphons started red-hot with nine first half goals to one, and continued that form for the remainder of the match. Jill-Ivan Nuguid was named best for the Gryphons on the back of two goals and a bevy of disposals.
Northern Blues gave the South Melbourne Districts an old fashioned hiding at W.R. Ruthven Reserve, running out 95-point winners at the final siren. Lachlan McRedmond (6) and Damon Marcon (5) were the main targets up forward for the Blues, finishing with 11 goals between them. The win leaves the Blues a game clear in fourth position on the ladder.
St Johns weathered a fourth-quarter Eltham Collegians-induced storm to hold for an eight-point victory at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Leading by 34 points at three quarter time, the JOCs gave up seven goals to three in the final 30 minutes and only just managed to hold on. Tim Edwards kicked five for the JOCs and proved the difference between the two sides in the end.
