Marcellin remain one game clear at the top of the Premier C ladder following a 54-point thrashing of Old Ivanhoe Grammarians at Marcellin College. Keading by 30 points at the last break, the Eagles put their foot down and sent through seven goals to three in the last quarter. Jonathon Bortolotto and Jeremiah Antypas were unstoppable for the Eagles, kicking 11 goals between them. The result didn’t affect either side in terms of ladder position, as both will be running around during finals.
Old Camberwell made it three wins in a row following a nine-point victory against Therry Penola at Gordon Barnard Reserve. Trailing by one point at quarter time, the Wells stepped up in the second to record six goals to nil and subsequently put the game out of the Lions’ reach. James Howells proved to be the difference for the Wells, kicking four goals in hard-fought contest.
Old Haileybury returned to the winner’s table this week with a 42-point win over Oakleigh at Princes Park Caulfield. Six goals to one in the first term arguably put the game to bed, with the Krushers failing to make any inroads as the match progressed. Corey Connelly led from the front for the Bloods, kicking four goals and getting amongst the best players. The win’s an important one for the Bloods as it extends the buffer between them and the Pirates in fifth.
Williamstown CYMS fought hard to record a 17-point come-from-behind win against PEGS at PEGS Sporting Fields. Trailing by 14 points at the main break, the CYs fired eight goals to four in the second half to run over the top of a valiant PEGS outfit. Jake Mackenzie dominated in a best-on-ground performance, while Nathan Bratby snagged three for the CYs.
Monash Blues put last week’s loss to Marcellin behind them as they came from behind to defeat Peninsula by 17 points at Peninsula School. Trailing by eight points at the half, the Blues held the Pirates to just three more goals while converting eight of their own. Big man Charlie Rossetti was dangerous with three majors, while Alfred Oppy was a deserved best-on-ground. The loss leaves the Pirates in fifth position on the ladder, sitting just below the Bloods.
