Old Brighton and 2016 U19 Big V star, Alex Mastromanno, has joined Collingwood’s VFL side ahead of the 2017 season.
The 18-year-old key forward was instrumental in the Tonners’ resurgence in the back half of last year and will take his game to new heights after a pre-season at the Holden Centre.
“The experience so far has been a real eye-opener,” Mastromanno told collingwood.com.au.
“Learning from the experienced players and developing from great coaches has been a really good experience.
“I’ve played as a forward almost my whole life but I’d like to develop into a more mobile and defensive-minded forward (this season).”
Mastromanno burst onto the VAFA scene last year with a four-goal haul in his side’s stunning Round 12 win over St Bedes/Mentone Tigers.
After earning selection in the representative game against AFL Victoria Country, the talented big man stood tall in the face of a Big V defeat by taking a number of contested marks and booting four majors.
Mastromanno joins a host of fellow VAFA players on the Magpies VFL list; including, Adrian Indovino (De La Salle), Gus Borthwick (Old Melburnians), Jack Hellier (SBMT), Ash Close (Ivanhoe), Kye Beveridge (De La Salle), Lachlan Howe (Old Xaverians), Sam Barnett (St Kevin’s) and Max Kelly (Old Scotch & Uni Blues).
