Eltham Collegians brought an end to Yarra Old Grammarians unbeaten run with a 26-point victory at Eltham College. The Turtles established a 20-point half-time lead after booting nine goals to five in the first half and the result was rarely in doubt for the remainder of the match. The Bushrangers fall outside the four to fifth spot on the Division 2 ladder, three spots above the Turtles. Goal kickers and best players were not available at time of publication.
Emmaus St Leo’s backed up their two-point thriller against Old Paradians last week with a one-point cliffhanger over MHSOB this week. The Animals held an 11-point lead at three quarter time and, despite giving up three goals to two in the final term, held on for the sensational victory. Nathan Baranello starred in a best-on-ground performance for the Animals and Chris Beluszar backed up his five goals last week with another four. Thomas Hickey was the Unicorns’ best player for the second week in a row.
In the Division 3 Grand Final rematch it was Glen Eira Gryphons who continued their winning ways against Hawthorn AFC, running out 52-point winners at Packer Reserve. Just 22 points separated the teams at the last break but the Gryphons ignited for 6.6 to 2.0 in the last 30 minutes of the game. Kye Cherian starred and should bag three votes for the Gryphons, while Justin Raiti (two) fought hard for the Hawks.
West Brunswick held firm in the final quarter to defeat Bulleen Templestowe by seven points and remain the only undefeated side in Division 2. Four goals to two in the third term gave the Westies a 13-point lead and, despite allowing one more goal in the fourth, held strong for their third consecutive win. Coby Millar was named best afield for the new ladder-leaders and Bill Irving kicked three goals. Kristian Cherbakof (four) did his utmost for the Bullants and took his season tally to 13.
Prahran Assumption registered their second win for the season with a 41-point victory against Old Paradians at Toorak Park. Former Coburg skipper Eric Kuret returned to the Two Blues’ line-up with four goals and a standout performance alongside best-on-ground Tom Freeman. Daniel Hennessy and Jake Plunkett were the best Raiders on the ground. The Raiders sit in ninth spot as they look for their first win of the year.
