Five unanswered goals in the final term gave Williamstown CYMS a 39-point victory over Marcellin at Altona Green Park this weekend. Leading by just seven points with one quarter remaining, the CYs flicked the switch and piled on the goals with Jack Gray (four) at the forefront of the run. Samuel Callard and Nick Blackney led the charge across the four quarters for the CYs, while Jono Blanch was outstanding for the Eagles. The Eagles remain fourth while the CYs move to within one spot in fifth.
A 16-goal second half led Caulfield Grammarians to a dominant 89-point victory over Old Camberwell at Glenhuntly Oval. The Fields led by 15 points and had registered just 4.8 to the main break, before firing in the second half behind the goal kicking prowess of Declan Reilley (seven). Thomas Small kicked three and the remaining 10 goals were spread among 10 players. Simon Bennett nailed three and took his tally to 12 from the past three outings but it was too little as the Wells slumped to their second loss of the season.
Hampton Rovers overcame a slow start and recorded a strong 38-point win over the previously in-form Old Ivanhoe at Boss James Reserve. The Hoes were favoured after knocking off Old Haileybury last week but failed to fire a shot as the Rovers went on to win their second match from four rounds. Roland De Biase starred in a best-on-ground performance for the Rovers, while Richard Skok kicked all three of the Hoes’ goals.
Old Geelong continued their ascension up the Premier C ladder with a second consecutive win, this week defeating Kew by 44 points at Victoria Park. Four unanswered goals in the second term gave the Ogs a 32-point lead at the half of which the Bears were unable to make any inroads. Will Sloss and John Simpson stood out for the Ogs while Sam Glover and Brin Duggan did their utmost to keep the Bears in the game. The Ogs climb to sixth spot on the ladder while the Bears remain in 10th as the only Premier C side to not win a game.
Old Haileybury returned to the winners’ column and, at the same time, inflicted Old Mentonians with their first loss of the season, running out 26-point winners at Princes Park, Caulfield. Despite trailing by two points at the main break, the Bloods rallied for nine second half goals while restricting their opponents to five. Nathan Waite returned to form with four goals and Corey Connelly nailed three for the Bloods. Comrey Edgeworth was outstanding for the Panthers while top scored with four goals. The win gives the Bloods pole position and the Panthers fall to third below the Fields.
