Snow Dogs’ goal-fest, Panthers power passed Pirates

A six-goal haul from James Sansom helped Old Scotch to their fourth consecutive victory, defeating Ajax by 50 points at Camberwell Sports Ground. The Cardinals jumped out to a 40-point half time lead on the back of eight goals to two and refused to let up as the consolidated for the final two terms. Sansom was best afield for the second straight game, while Lachlan Hill kicked three goals. Adam Caplan and Joshua Ludski were the best of the Jackas and they remain in fourth spot on the ladder, two below the Cardinals.

Monash Blues proved too strong for Mazenod in their battle for fifth spot, running out 53-point winners at Frearson oval. With both sides knocking on the door of the top four, it was the Blues, and young gun Joe Harrison, who came out on top as the U19 Big V player bagged four goals. Nick Woodland also kicked four majors for the Blues while Andrew Young continued his outstanding form. Dean Izon starred for the Nodders as they fall to sixth with a percentage of just 71.73.

Old Brighton’s undefeated season continued 12 rounds into the season after they defeated Parkdale Vultures by 121 points at Gerry Green Reserve. It was a goal kicking feast for the Tonners forward line as Oliver Cavallaro (5), Alex Mastromanno (4), Michael Karayannis (4), Raury Bolger (3) and Patrick Liston (3) cashed in on the midfield’s delivery. Co-captain harry Hill was named best afield for the Tonners, while Michael Graham and Andrew Watterson were the best of the Vultures. The Vultures sit ninth on the ladder with three wins.

Old Carey registered their fourth win of the season as they defeated Peninsula by 31 points at Peninsula School Ground. The Panthers led by just six points at the main break, but nailed 10 goals to six in the second half. Panthers midfielder Sam Cust is a man in form after he bagged his fourth consecutive bag of three goals, while Tim Newton starred with a best-on-ground display. Tory Taylor top-scored with three goals for the Pirates and Callum Parton impressed as they remain 10th with two wins.

41 scoring shots to 17 helped St Bernard’s to a comprehensive 129-point victory over Fitzroy at the Snake Pit. 12 goals to one in the first half set the scene for the Snow Dogs, before they continued their charge with another 14 goals to four in the final two terms. Christopher Spinella and Shaun Clarke kicked six goals each for the third-placed Snow Dogs while Mitch Hughes found plenty of the ball. Aidan Lambert and Ross Borland were named best afield for the Roys, who now slump to eighth position on the ladder, the lowest they’ve been all season.
