Emmaus St Leo’s vs. Aquinas
Aquinas survived an early scare to overcome Emmaus St Leo’s at the Animals’ Bennettswood Reserve. An upset was on the cards early as the home side piled on 6 goals to 2 in the opening term to blow out to a healthy 26-point lead at quarter time. After some time to reset at the break the Bloods were able regain composure and showed why they are a premiership contender to wrestle back the deficit and even take the lead at half time with 6 goals to 1 in a complete reversal from the first. Aquinas were able to maintain this form in the second half as the Animals struggled to impact the scoreboard with some wayward kicking and only managed 3 majors after quarter time. Despite the loss the Animals will take some positives given they had more scoring shots and outplayed a top side in the first quarter. Usual suspects Ash Naulty and Michael Cardamone chipped in with 3 each with Philip Jurkovsky best on. Captain Chris Beluzsar booted 3 for the Animals while Dan Hill (3) also hit the scoreboard in his first Senior game for the year.
Parkside vs. Canterbury
Canterbury Football Club are finding a purple patch of form at the midway point of the season improving their record to 6-2 after a gritty away from home win against Parkside Football Club. The Devils played very good defensively early doors with an upset brewing at Pitcher Park, a 10 point lead at quarter time and level pegging at the main break had the game right in the balance. The Cobras however are running full of confidence and were able to run out the game a bit stronger to get the four points. Cameron Woods was best afield for Canterbury with goals while Nathan Hicks also added 4 to the tally. Isaac Romano (2 goals) was best for the home side who will have more wins in store if they can play to that level of football for the rest of the season
Westbourne Grammarians vs. North Brunswick
A nine-goal third quarter barrage has seen Westbourne Grammarians produce a very convincing 51-point win at home and catapults them back into the top 4 and finals contention. It was an arm wrestle in the first half with scored level at quarter time and again in the second with North Brunswick able to hold a slender 3 point half time lead. Not only did the Warriors regain the lead in the premiership quarter but they also put the game to bed with 9 goals to 1 in a display that proves they belong in finals conversations. Mainstays Ali Eqbal and Steven Wintle bagged 5 apiece with Ryan Coy (2 goals) judged the Warriors best. Matthew David kicked 3 goals in a best afield display for the Bulls who now face Manningham at home next week.
