University Blacks will have a second consecutive crack at a Premier B Grand Final after they earnt a spot in the preliminary final following yesterday’s 82-point win over Beaumaris. After both sides kicked two goals each in the opening term, the Blacks clicked into gear with 12 unanswered goals thereafter. Bede Mahon starred in a BOG display for the Blacks while Jordan Quaile kicked five goals. Big U19 representative Lewis Diggins and Callum Heath fought valiantly for the young Sharks unit. The Blacks will now face Old Scotch in next week’s preliminary final.
After commencing the season with two wins from their first eight games, Ajax’s resurgence continued yesterday as they defeated Old Ivanhoe by 10 points and booked a spot in next week’s preliminary final. The Jackas trailed the Hoers by 14 points at half time but fought back with three unanswered goals in the third to take a one-point lead into the fourth. Three goals to two in the final quarter cemented the win for Ajax with Jordan Cohen and Richie Simon their best players. Michael Mitris was a standout for the Hoers yet again as they now look to launch another assault on Premier C in 2020. Ajax will now face Ormond at Trevor Barker Oval next weekend.
