Four games, four blowouts in Premier C Women’s

Ivanhoe vs UHS-VU

Round 10 Premier C footy kicked off at Ivanhoe Park where Ivanhoe and UHS did battle. UHS would go in as favourites, sitting one spot above Ivanhoe on the ladder, though two games clear. Ivanhoe set the tone early with two unanswered goals in the opening term and held a strong 10-point lead into the first change. The second quarter was a deadlock with neither side scoring a single point, as Ivanhoe held their quarter time lead into the main break. Ivanhoe produced one of their best quarters of the season as they piled on four goals to just one behind, to stretch their lead to 34 points heading into the final quarter. Ivanhoe’s incredible defence was once more on display in the last quarter when they kept UHS to just one behind whilst kicking yet another goal. Their lead come the final siren was 40 points. Emily Jane Johnson starred with 4 goals as Rhiannon Campbell, Jemma McCarthy and Katia Guarnuccio all booted singles. Bridget Healy and Marlo Zambelli were amongst UHS-VU’s best. UHS-VU have a huge game against ladder leaders, Aquinas, next week as they look to get back on the winners list. Ivanhoe will look to continue their push for the top 4 when they play the Bulls away from home.

Richmond Central vs Aquinas

The Snakes would host Aquinas as they continued their hunt for their first win of the year. Aquinas would obviously go in as red-hot favourites as they looked to hold their spot atop the ladder. The Snakes were competitive in the opening term, albeit not registering a score. Aquinas were inaccurate kicking three behinds and held a three-point lead into quarter time. The game opened up in the second term as Aquinas added three goals next their name, whilst keeping the Snakes scoreless again. They held a 22-point lead into half time and were looking extremely comfortable. The third term was very much the same as the second as Aquinas added yet another three goals and kept the Snakes scoreless to extend their margin out to 43 points. Credit must be given to the Snakes for their last quarter effort. They kicked the only goal of the term as Aquinas were yet again inaccurate, kicking seven behinds. At the final siren, Aquinas were home by 44 points. They had five individual goalkickers with Meg Dargan being the only multiple goalkicker with two. Richmond Central will host the Tigers next week as Aquinas have a tricky game away from home against UHS-VU.

St Bedes/Mentone vs Brunswick Renegades

This was a massive game for both sides as the Tigers looked to keep in touch with Aquinas at the top of the ladder and the Renegades could stay in the hunt for the top 4. The first quarter went as a lot of people would have predicted. The Tigers were on top but couldn’t quite capitalise on their opportunities. They were able to keep the Renegades scoreless to hold an eight-point lead into quarter time. The second term was a deadlock with both sides being defensively sound. The margin remained at eight points at half time. The Tigers came out after the main break and looked to set the tone immediately. They were able to keep the Renegades scoreless whilst kicking three goals of their own to extend on their half time margin to hold a 29-point lead at three quarter time. The last quarter was essentially a carbon copy of the third as the Tigers added another three goals and kept the Renegades scoreless again to run away and win by 49 points. The Tigers had six individual goalkickers with Sarah Davis booting two. For the Renegades, Angela Snowdon and Shelley Lampard were their best. The Renegades will host Mazenod next week as the Tigers travel away to face Richmond Central.

Mazenod vs North Brunswick

This shaped as a must-win game for Mazenod as they headed in as favourites against the Bulls, needing a win to keep up with the sides around them on the ladder. Mazenod were extremely quick out of the blocks, kicking four opening quarter goals to no score from the Bulls, giving them a 26-point buffer at quarter time. The Bulls tightened the screws in the second quarter from a defensive standpoint, but they were still unable to generate any scores of their own. Mazenod added to their lead at quarter time and lead by 34 points at the half. Mazenod were then able to turn it up a notch come the second half. Inaccuracy let them down, but a dominant quarter saw them kick one goal and eight behinds to extend out to a big 48-point lead at the final change. A further three goals were added in the final term by Mazenod as the Bulls didn’t have any answers. Mazenod ran away with a 69-point win. Lara Del Conte was outstanding with five goals and Kaylah Salvini also booted two for the hosts. Monique Goates and Samantha Rafferty were a couple of the Bulls best. The Bulls will be hoping to bounce back when they host Ivanhoe next week. For Mazenod, it’s a trip to Brunswick ahead of them as they are hosted by the Renegades.
