Aquinas v St Bedes/Mentone Tigers
Aquinas and the Tigers will battle it out as the top 2 sides at the end of the home and away season to decide who will lock in a ticket for grand final day. Aquinas lost just the one game throughout the season. That being to the Tigers in an enthralling contest in which the Tigers scraped home by three points. The Tigers had a couple of slip ups throughout the year but managed to find some form at the right time and won their last five games heading into finals footy. Donaldson, Geshke and Steinfort will all be names to look out for in Tigers colours. Whilst for Aquinas, it’ll be a combination of McHugh, McLean and Dargan that will loom dangerous for the Tigers backline. Can the Tigers pull off an upset yet again, beating Aquinas for the second time this year? Or will Aquinas bounce back and book their spot in the big dance?
Mazenod vs Ivanhoe
Elimination finals footy sees Mazenod play Ivanhoe. Mazenod will go in as favourites after a 7-3 record throughout the regular season. Ivanhoe started the season 0-3 and looked gone for all money. But a mid-season fightback saw them finish up with a record of 5-5 and a percentage that was good enough to see them sneak into the four above UHS-VU and Brunswick Renegades. The last time these two sides met, Mazenod got the chocolates in a very close game that’s saw them win by just six points. Mazenod got the jump and lead by 15 points at quarter time. Ivanhoe showed plenty of heart to work their way back into the contest, unfortunately just falling short come the final siren. Emily Jane Johnson has been the key all year for Ivanhoe, and she will be required to stand up yet again. For Mazenod, it’ll be Del Conte and Kerley that will need to provide attacking presence, as they’ve done all season long, if Mazenod are to progress. Will Mazenod simply get the job done? Or will this be a finals fairy tale for Ivanhoe?
