Whitefriars strengthened their chances of finishing top 2 when they defeated Kew FC by 10 points at Whitefriars College. With both sides entering the match at 9-1, it was the Friars who jumped out to a 33-point lead at 3QT before holding the Bears off as they came back with four unanswered in the final term. Marlon Simbolon and Hewitt Murray were standouts for Friars, while Ciaran Hickey top-scored with three goals. Nathan Sambevski booted four goals for the Bears and took his season tally to 24, while Brennan Mills was their best.
Old Peninsula claimed their most important win of the season, defeating Brunswick NOBS by 27 points and lifting themselves out of the bottom two. The Pirates were on from the get-go as they piled on fur straight goals in the opening term and put on a defensive masterclass by eeping NOBS goalless to half-time. Samuel Harrison and Tyson Jackson starred for the Pirates with three goals each, while Reubin Fulton-Grigg played a leading role for NOBS. The Pirates have now moved one game clear of Oakleigh in ninth, while NOBS are winless to this point of the season.
Old Camberwell kept their sights firmly on the minor premiership as they downed Prahran Assumption by 18 points at Gordon Barnard Reserve. The Wellers slotted six straight goals to one in the first term and maintained a comfortable lead for the remainder of the match. Ben Hart put on a masterclass with four goals while Alex Taverner and Sam Boyce were named best afield. Two Blues captain James Musster continued his elite form through the midfield alongside Tony Mirabella who kicked four goals up forward. Despite the loss, Prahran remains two games clear in fourth spot on the ladder following the Saints loss to Therry.
Therry Penola came from the clouds in their Round 15 match-up against St Mary’s Salesian, running out 27-point winners at John Pascoe Fawkner Reserve. The Lions trailed by as much as 22 points at half time but piled on 10 goals to two in a dominant second half. Jarrod Bannister and Daniel Tadinac were unstoppable up forward for the Lions with a combined 10 goals, while Jacob Gough was named BOG for the third time this year. Manny Dolan went forward and had an immediate impact for the Saints with a season-high five goals. Both sides now have a 5-6 record and sit two games behind Prahran in fourth.
In the final match of the round, PEGS registered their fourth win of the year as they defeated Oakleigh AFC by 51 points at Scammell Reserve. Leading by 21 points at half time, the Bombers really put the foot down in the third with four unanswered goals solidifying the win. Six goals from Riley Simmons took his season tally to 33 for PEGS, while Adrian Romanyk kicked four. It was shootout between the forward withs Aaron Cloke slotting six majors for the Krushers.
