The Division 4 Women’s Team of the Year has been finalised, with Parkdale Vultures and Albert Park the big winners after outstanding seasons.
The Vultures, who dominated the season and were undefeated heading into the grand final, have six players named in the side, while the Falcons (2nd) have five. De La Salle (4th) are next best with four players followed by MCC (3rd) and Parkside (5th) with three each.
The dominant Vultures midfield of Breanna Allen, Sienna Symons, Jess Welford, and Jamie-Lee Munn were all included as they led the charge week in, week out.
Swinburne University sharpshooter, Hayley Wurfel, leads the forward line after kicking a section-high 19 goals, while both Emily Rayment (Parkside) and Johannah Griffin (Albert Park) were included following their 18 votes each and joint Division 4 B&F Awards.
Griffin capped off a stunning season for the Falcons – B&F + second place in the goal kicking (17) – with TOTY captaincy, while De La Salle midfielder Sally Fyfield was named vice.
Parkdale’s Steve Burgess and Albert Park’s Lucas Gniel were named co-coaches. Burgess led his charges to an undefeated season, while Gniel took the Falcons from one win in 2019 to a preliminary final berth.
The Team of the Year was based on feedback and analysis from coaches, VAFA Media and umpires.
