Power House had their first win at home in 1,099 on Saturday afternoon. The club was in store for a massive day set up by the Reserves winning in the morning. Also, celebrating the 1970 and 1971 Premiership teams, culminating in a four point heart stopper over Manningham Cobras to climb off the bottom of the ladder.
Trailing by 24 points at quarter time, Power House lifted during the second and third term before kicking the only goal of the final quarter to claim victory.
Ben Circosta kicked a goal and capped off the day with a best on ground performance. Along with Joseph Halloran in the best.
The Cobras will see this as one that got away from them, while for Power House, do they dare to dream about catching Yarra Old Grammarians in 8th spot and getting out of the relegation zone?
The biggest challenge in D2 football comes for them this weekend, facing the ladder leaders Ivanhoe AFC who are looking at a baker’s dozen of consecutive wins.
Challenged to a shootout in the first quarter by Old Paradians, the second term became a lockdown style of game with no additional goals kicked. A barnstorming second half followed as the Hoers slammed home 11 goals to one to claim a 72 point victory.
Ash Close has gone past the half-century of goals, he kicked nine in a power forward display, supported by Billy Drake who added another three to his tally for the season. Anthony Cafari for Old Paradians added another four goals to his name.
Wayne Schultz and Scott Selwood were at their best. It’s tough to see who the challengers will be to them as this season continues, such is the way they’re dismantling opposition sides.
Old Paradians can get themselves back on the winners list when they travel out to Ted Ajani Reserve to face Bulleen Templestowe on Saturday and stay ahead of MHSOB in fourth spot.
The Unicorns were challenged by the Ants for the opening three quarters of their contest before winning the final quarter by a goal and the game by 11 points. Lachie Dowling (3) led the way on the scoreboard while again Julian Eimutis was part of the brigade that got MHSOB over the line.
The Ants have now lost six of their past seven after a positive start to the season, with four games to go they’ll be intending on turning the last month around and finishing the season the way they started.
Almost every week from here is a must-win for the Unicorns if they’re to finish inside the top four and keep Old Paradians nervous. This weekend it’s all about how they come out against Aquinas.
For Aquinas, they started well against Brunswick in the opening term, from there it was one-way traffic as the Wickers debuted their pride jumper over the weekend.
12 goals to four after quarter time was the tale of the tape with Aidan Pollock (4), Jasper Paevere (3), and Tom Wilson (3) all proving too much for the Aquinas defence as the afternoon went on.
Josh Robertson has kicked 3 goals in a match for the fourth time this year, a shining light for the club throughout the year.
A top two spot is still on the line for Brunswick as they keep close checking on West Brunswick, Round 15 pins them against Yarra Old Grammarians at Alec Gillon Oval.
West Brunswick set up their win in the first 30 minutes with 6.7.43 to 0.2.2 against Yarra Old Grammarians. 11 goals after quarter time to keep the pressure on the Bushrangers for the full four quarters resulted in a 64 point win.
Ben Hutchins and Max Risstrom shared the goals between them kicking a combined eight majors with Luke Buckler named the best player on the ground. They will face Manningham Cobras this weekend in what they will see as an opportunity to further cement their spot in the top two.
