Former AFL superstar Brendan Fevola and pop superstar Guy Sebastian pulled on the yellow & black for Masala Dandenong on Saturday, attracting the largest crowd ever for the Tigers.
The one-off high-profile appearances were a result of the Masala Dandenong Football Club winning a Fox FM ‘Fifi, Fev & Nick’ breakfast show promotion.
A crowd of more than 2,500 was in attendance at Lois Twohig Reserve for the Thirds Division 5 Men’s match between Masala Dandenong and South Melbourne Districts.
And the crowd wasn’t disappointed, with Fev at his brilliant best, booting 6 goals as the team rebounded from a 229-point loss the previous week to win a two-point thriller over South Melbourne, in what turned out to be an incredible celebration of VAFA community footy.
The 44-year-old was simply unstoppable anytime the ball entered the forward 50 arc as he plucked several one-handed marks.
“We hoped to do better than last week — score more than seven points and not to lose by as much as 229 points,” Fevola told News Corp.
Guy Sebastian entertained the monster crowd by performing some of his biggest hits during half time.
Masala Dandenong president William Bolch told the Herald Sun he’d never seen anything like it.
“We ran out of bacon and eggs, we ran out of milk, we had to make multiple trips down to the shops to restock the canteen.
“I think today has given the club a massive spike”
Following the game, Fev and Guy joined in as the club song was sung out loud for the first time in 620 days for the team, wrapping up an amazing day for the club.
