Sharks down Cardinals in Premier B top-of-the-table clash, Vultures creep over Tonners

Beaumaris proved too strong in their top of the table clash against Old Scotch, defeating the Cardinals by 51 points at Camberwell Sports Ground. Trailing by 25 points at quarter time, the Sharks put their foot down with six goals to two in the second term and refused to slow as they kicked 12 goals to four in the second half. Stephen Milne was unstoppable forward of centre for the Sharks, booting eight goals and standing out above all others as the most dominant player on the ground. Alex Van Ryn was strong for the Cardinals, who now sit a game and a half behind the undefeated Sharks after the ladder-leaders drew with the Roys last weekend.

St Bedes/Mentone Tigers eliminated a three-point half time deficit and ran out 33-point winners against Hampton Rovers at Brindisi Street Oval. Michael Barnes and Thomas Tyquin starred for the Tigers, while first-gamer Trent Dennis-Lane kicked two alongside Ed Turner for the Rovers. The Tigers maintain touch with the Sharks and Cardinals in third position on the Premier B ladder, while the Rovers are at the bottom and a win behind Old Brighton.

Fitzroy made it three wins from their past four games (including a draw against the top-of-the-table Sharks) with a 41-point victory against Monash Blues at Brunswick Street Oval. Leading by 11 points at the final break, the Roys piled on six goals to one in the final term to run away with the comfortable win. Aiden Lambert was named BOG for the Roys in a starring display, while Emile Pavlich and Dan Bisetto combined for seven goals. Nick Petering fought hard for the Blues with three goals.

Ajax put a three-game winless streak behind them and defeated Old Haileybury by 31 points at Gary Smorgon Oval. Daniel Goodman dominated in just his second outing for the year, and Asher Burstin and Andrew Thurin kicked six goals between them. Jordan Moncrieff and John Nicolopoulos were shining lights for the Bloods and kicked two each. Ajax are fifth on the ladder but with a subpar percentage of 86.46, while the Bloods are seventh on three wins for the year.

Parkdale Vultures came from four points down at half time and held on to defeat Old Brighton by six in a Premier B classic at Gerry Green Reserve. Charlie Dillon was the star of the show with four majors for the Vultures, while Michael Graham and Nathan Ng were their side’s best. Daniel Anthony stood tall for the Tonners with four, who sit in ninth position and just one win above the Rovers.
